Priscilla, HD video 4’.59”, 2024, mixes images of dance, of archival documents and a of mid-nineteenth century mausoleum. As counterpoint a soprano delivers a melancholy, almost teasing, assertion of the elusiveness of the dead, echoed by a succession of Egyptian stars, symbol of souls’ eternal life in the firmament. The film takes selectively from others’ telling of the much-recounted story of Jack, Earl of Kilmorey, and his relationship with Priscilla Hoste, to offer a partial account, exploring and uncovering the tale’s universal resonance.
