As Water
As Water, HD video 6’04” 2020
A person speaks about their relationship with a place that is important to them. This may be as site, as context or as metaphor. Through listening one learns, directly or obliquely, about who they are and how they experience the world. Each of the protagonists of As Water: Rémy Noë, Asifa Lahore, Emma Plover, Alex Gardner, Beau-Azra Tavi Scott and Grace Oni Smith, finds themselves judged as, in some way, outside of the existing cultural norms of this society. Although different from each other, their words and voices coalesce, echo and reinforce each other. Together, each in their unique and individual voice, they question matters of boundary, of definition, of authority. Instead they offer notions of fluidity, flow, freedom and future.
